EVENT TIMES:

FRIDAY, MARCH 9 – 5:00 PM TILL MIDNIGHT
SATURDAY, MARCH 10 – NOON TILL MIDNIGHT
SUNDAY, MARCH 11 – NOON TILL 10:30 PM

MUSICAL GUESTS:

PETER ASHER of Peter & Gordon will be with us all weekend. Peter has come up with a new and exciting kind of event to kick things off on Friday and quickly establish the spirit of collaboration, creativity, curiosity and joy for which the FEST is famous. He will combine a conversation with all of the musical guests with a few acoustic performances and plenty of audience participation to get the weekend off to a fun, enthusiastic start.

RANDY BACHMAN is a Canadian rock icon who stands in rarefied air as one of a very exclusive handful of artists who have topped the charts in two different bands: ‘American Woman’ with The Guess Who and ‘You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet’ as leader and singer with Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Now the classic rock legend is paying tribute to an early mentor, hero and inspiration. ‘By George’ is a personal nod to George Harrison, offering Randy’s distinctive hard-rock guitar-driven interpretations of Harrison’s finest recorded work. The album will be released in the first quarter of 2018 and Randy will be performing one or two of his songs from the new album at the FEST, with Liverpool. We are thrilled and honored to have Randy join us for the first time (Sunday only).

NEIL INNES was a member of the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and worked with Paul, who produced one of their hits. He wrote many of the music for Monty Python, appeared in skits, and was considered the 7th Python. In 1978, Eric Idle wrote a film about a fictitious band, called The Rutles. It is the greatest parody of the Beatles ever. Neil wrote all of the music for their All You Need is Cash movie/album. 16 years later, Neil attended his first FEST and was ‘stunned’ at the response to him and his music. So much so, that he was inspired to go back to the vaults and complete what became The Rutles Archaeology CD.

BILLY J. KRAMER will be presenting a new show based on his own unique observations. To Liverpool With Love: The British Invasion Through the Eyes and Ears of Billy J. Kramer. Billy was an integral part of that invasion, grew up in the Liverpool music scene and toured extensively with The Beatles before and during Beatlemania. Where did the seeds come from that created this environment? In the show, through songs and stories, Billy tells it like it was. On Sunday, Billy is bringing his amazing band back (including the one and only Liberty Devitto on drums) for an afternoon Concert featuring some new songs mixed in with his classics.

PETER & JEREMY, together for the first time as a duo! The two separate halves of the two most popular British Invasion duos from the 1960s together at last! The FEST has been fortunate to have presented Peter & Gordon, Chad & Jeremy and (two years ago) even Peter, Chad & Jeremy on the same bill. Well, Chad has now retired, and Peter and Jeremy are teaming up together for a brand new show, exchanging reminiscences about the London music scene of that time, great songs and great artists of the period (including the Beatles of course) and so much more. They will be performing many of their hits and discussing their extraordinary, multifaceted and peripatetic careers. This performance will be divided into two parts, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

MARK RIVERA, Ringo’s current Musical Director, premiered his first solo album, Common Bond, at a recent NY FEST. His main gig is being Billy Joel’s horn player. Mark is considered one of the finest horn players in the world. His song, “Money, Money, Money” (with Ringo playing Drums) was voted the 8th Coolest Song of the Year on Little Steven’s Underground Garage on Sirius/XM. Mark is a huge Beatles fans and early in his amazing career, performed with John Lennon in 1975, an experience he will never forget.

JON COBERT: Darling, darling! Stand by Me, and listen carefully to the piano on John Lennon’s version, because that’s Jon Cobert! Joining us on Sunday only, we are excited to have this multi-instrument, multi-Grammy winning musician from Brooklyn, N.Y. with us.

LIVERPOOL, our amazing Beatles cover band, will be in concert all three nights. In addition to their performance of many cuts from The White Album, Liverpool will be playing the Friday night dance party and will be thrilling attendees with their note-for-note renditions of more Beatles hits and deeper Beatles cuts all weekend.

THE WEEKLINGS will be playing songs that were written but never officially released by the Beatles, their infectious Beatle-inspired originals, and other Beatles cuts on Saturday. They’ll also be selling copies of their latest album, Studio 2, recorded at Abbey Road Studio 2! This is their fourth year with us and it is exciting to see their popularity increase since then, getting lots of airplay on Little Steven’s Underground Garage, and even on Chris Carter’s Breakfast With The Beatles, on The Beatles Channel!

BIRDS OF PARADOX is local artist JEFF SLATE’s band. You may have seen Jeff’s name in a piece he wrote included in the Super Deluxe Sgt. Pepper release earlier this year. He is also a contributing editor to Beatlefan. We will be announcing his lineup shortly, but we can tell you they will be doing a tribute to the Traveling Wilburys for a number of reasons – one being the recent passing of Tom Petty. Stay tuned. This is their fifth appearance at the New York Metro Fest, and we’re thrilled to have them back!

CELLOPHANE FLOWERS featuring JEFF LUBIN is a reinterpretation of Beatles songs arranged for string quartet & voice. They made their FEST debut in 2015 in New York, thrilling attendees on two of our stages, and returned in 2016 for more terrific sets.
They will be in concert on both the Main Stage and the Apple Jam Stage.

SPECIAL GUESTS:

LESLIE CAVENDISH was the Beatles’ hairdresser beginning in 1967. Anything the lads did with their hair, the world followed. Have you ever wondered what it might have been like to be The Beatles’ hairstylist in the late 60s? No it’s not Billy Shears… it’s the one and only Leslie Cavendish and he’s sure to share some fabulous story stylings about his time with John, Paul, George and Ringo from 1967 – 1975, and being part of their iconic transformations. He spent time in the recording studio with The Beatles and was even invited to join them on their Magical Mystery Tour. The US edition of his new book, ‘The Cutting Edge’, will be premiered at The Fest. We welcome Leslie, who still resides in London, to his very first FEST.

As CHARLES ROBERTS recalls: When the Quarrymen agreed to play at my street party in 1957, nobody in Toxteth had heard of them. Little did any of us know that they would eventually evolve into the greatest band in the world –- The Beatles. The lads came from the more affluent Woolton and the surrounding area, and they were all aware of Toxteths ‘rough’ reputation, but to their credit, they all turned up. Charles will be sharing his memories of that very earliest musical moment of a timeline that led to….well, we all know the rest!
